EC forecasts Italy's deficit will drop below 3% mark this year

The European Commission said Thursday that it forecasts Italy's deficit-to-GDP ratio will drop below the 3% threshold this year, enabling it to emerge from its excessive-deficit infringement procedure. The EU executive said it expects the deficit to come in at 2.9% of GDP in both 2026 and 2027, down from 3.1% in 2025.
