Peter Praet

Peter Praet served as a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) and as its Chief Economist from June 2011 to May 2019. In this role, he was responsible for preparing monetary policy meetings and proposing policy decisions. Between 2011 and 2015, he also oversaw the ECB’s budget, organisation, and human resources—during a period that included the establishment of the Single Supervisory Mechanism. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
