'Assisted dying would have ended my mum's misery - she begged to be put to sleep'

A woman has spoken of how her mother pleaded to be 'put to sleep' in her final days, which were marked by depression and a 'complete loss of any dignity'. In 2020, at the age of 89, Irene Wright was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) - an incurable illness that led to the great-grandmother losing her ability to use her limbs, eat, speak or use the toilet unaccompanied. Irene eventually passed away in bed at the age of 90, in what has been described as a 'miserable' death. Her daughter
