Colombian military inaugurates operation of U.S. made radar

(1 Dec 2001) The Colombian government has unveiled its latest weapon in the war against drugs: a giant ground base radar (GBR) designed to help to intercept illegal drug smuggling flights. The GBR will operate from the Tres Esquinas military base in the southern province of Putumayo, close to the demilitarized zone controlled by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC.
