In Indonesia, mass arrests are fuelling concerns over freedom of speech in one of the world's biggest democracies. In August, mass protests erupted over lawmakers' plans to increase their own pay. Violent standoffs with police followed. Several people were killed and thousands arrested. Activists say hundreds of people, taken into custody in Indonesia, are being detained unlawfully.
