The economic climate is difficult to predict right now. Interest rates were just cut (a positive development) and they're likely to be reduced by the Federal Reserve twice more before the year ends (an even better development). Stock market performance , meanwhile, has been strong, boosting retirement funds.  On the other hand, inflation is rising and is now nearly a full percentage point above the Fed's 2% target.
