Chris Packham has made an urgent plea for supermarkets to end the cruel culling of male chicks in the egg industry, asking: “What are we waiting for?” The Springwatch presenter, 65, hit out as he signed a letter to major retailers along with stars including Dame Joanna Lumley and Succession’s Brian Cox. Some 45 million hours-old male chicks are killed each year in the UK because they cannot lay eggs or be used for meat. But despite increasing public awareness of the issue, it remains widespread.
