Italy's 'shopping trolley' price index has risen 24% since 2021

Istat said its 'shopping trolley' index of the prices of food, household goods, and personal care products rose 24% between 2021 and 2025, which was significantly higher than the rise of 17.1% in the general inflation rate in this period.     The national statistics agency added that energy prices in Italy rose by 34.1% in this period.     The Italian Antitrust Authority said Wednesday that it has opened an investigation into the role played by large-scale retail chains in hikes in food prices
