EchoStar, SpaceX reach $18B deal to expand Starlink cell service

Sept. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. telecommunications company EchoStar announced Monday plans to sell spectrum licenses to SpaceX for $17 billion, allowing the aerospace company to expand its broadband service to cell phones via Starlink satellites. The definitive agreement includes EchoStar's AWS-4 and H-block spectrum licenses in exchange for $8.5 billion in cash and up to $8.5 billion in SpaceX stock.
