‘This is a great day’: Australian PM as under-16s social media ban takes effect

Australia on Wednesday (Dec 10) rolled out a world-first ban preventing children under 16 from holding social media accounts. Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called it “a great day,” saying the move gives parents back control and tackles what he describes as a "global problem". On the streets of Melbourne, older people reacted positively to the ban. Under the new law, platforms from Facebook and Instagram to TikTok and YouTube, as well as other platforms, must remove underage accounts
