The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) serves as a “checkpoint” on students’ mastery of the primary school curriculum and is designed to assess core concepts and skills, including the ability to think critically and apply concepts in different contexts. Senior Minister of State for Education Janil Puthucheary, who highlighted this approach in reply to an MP’s question in parliament on Tuesday (Nov 4), said the PSLE does not emphasise rote learning or test-taking skills.
