Shortage of psychologists in Singapore amid rising demand

Cristiana Gigina

Singapore is facing a shortage of psychologists as demand for mental health services continues to grow. Aspiring practitioners face a lengthy training process of up to seven years, limited local postgraduate places and challenges securing clinical placements. The Singapore Psychological Society is working with institutes to expand opportunities, while NUS has introduced a five-year accelerated pathway. New registration requirements are also set to raise standards and improve patient safety.
