A representative of actress Shannen Doherty was "really disappointed" the star was left out of the 2025 Academy Awards "in memoriam" tribute. The Oscars played a reel featuring stars who have died in the past year, including Gene Hackman, David Lynch and Maggie Smith. Shannen passed away of cancer in July 2024 , aged just 53.
