The Texas attorney general announced that he would consider dropping out of the race if the U.S. Senate passed a controversial Republican-led voter-citizenship bill, a clear shot across the bow at the president’s likely endorsee, Senator John Cornyn . Paxton’s gambit appears to have worked.
