Israel has dramatically intensified its offensive in northern Gaza, with the army sending ground forces in to seize Gaza City. Israel's military says thousands of Hamas fighters are still there and has declared it a war zone. The army has called on civilians to leave, and move south. Those fleeing described relentless bombardment in the city, much of which already lies in ruins.
