Russian Airlines Reactivate Old Jets Amid Deep Funding Cuts and Spare Parts Shortage

Federaţia Rusă

Russian airlines are set to bring older planes back into service in 2026-27 as the country grapples with a growing aircraft shortage and a deepening aviation crisis. The restoration program includes 12 aircraft: nine Tu-204-214 jets, one An-148, and two Il-96s. Work on the fleet began in 2022, and 10 of the planes are already operational, Russian media Izvestia reported on Monday, citing state corporation Rostec.
