EU condemns Venice's Biennale's decision to allow Russian 'showcase'

The European Commission (EC) on Tuesday condemned the Venice's Biennale's decision to allow Russia to reopen its pavilion at 2026 International Art Exhibition. The EU executive had previously written to Biennale to say the reopening of the pavilion was a possible breach of European sanctions on Moscow related to the invasion of Ukraine and that it put two million euros of funding at risk.
