UN allows Palestinian President Abbas to address assembly via video after US denies visa

UNITED NATIONS: The UN General Assembly voted on Friday (Sep 19) to allow Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the annual gathering of world leaders next week via video after the United States said it would not give him a visa to travel to New York. The resolution received 145 votes in favour and five votes against, while six countries abstained. It also allows Abbas and any other high-level Palestinian officials to take part in UN meetings or conferences via video over the next year
