Acting Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday has been nominated to become the service's 28th commandant, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Wednesday. Lunday, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's Class of 1987, is an attorney who has led some of the service's largest operational commands. He was appointed vice commandant in 2024 and has served as acting commandant since Jan. 21 when his predecessor, Adm. Linda Fagan, was fired from the job. During his four months as
