The Maine legislature has passed a bill that would temporarily prevent large data centers from being established in the state. The bill is now on Maine Gov. Janet Mills’ (D) desk. It’s not clear whether or not she will sign it into law. However, if she does, it would become the first ban of its kind in the U.S. Lawmakers in other states are also expressing concern about the substantial electricity and water consumption required by such data centers.
