“Latin Club” May Be Controversial, But It’s Thriving

Last year, I witnessed a new term pop up all over my timeline: “Latin club.” The concept—a generic catchall for club music born in Latin America and its diaspora—appeared everywhere: in tweets , newsletters , and trend pieces ; Instagram notes, Bandcamp tags, and press releases. Some of the creators pushed under this umbrella include the Miami-based experimentalist Nick León , the raptor house trailblazer DJ Babatr, and the Colombian powerhouse label TraTraTrax, which scored a Crack Magazine
