(6 Jun 1979) RR7923A SOUTH EAST ASIA THE REFUGEE CRISIS The flood of refugees in south-east Asia began after Communist take-overs in 1975 in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. More recently, China's border war with Vietnam, and the Vietnam-backed takeover in Cambodia, has increased the exodus, mainly of ethnic Chinese. They sail across the South China Sea, often in unseaworthy boats, and many die before reaching landfall. Most south-east Asian countries have so many boat people already that they
