Vietnamese fishers attacked in South China Sea: State media

HANOI: Ten Vietnamese fishers were violently robbed in the disputed South China Sea, state media reported on Wednesday (Oct 2), with an official saying the attackers came from Chinese-flagged vessels. The men were reportedly beaten with iron bars and robbed of thousands of dollars worth of fish and equipment on Sunday off the Paracel Islands – an archipelago in the resource-rich waterway claimed by China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei.
