Global military expenditure continued its upward trajectory in 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of growth and reaching a new historical peak, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute ( SIPRI ). Total worldwide spending climbed to USD 2.887 trillion (€2.47 trillion), covering everything from ships and aircraft to missiles and other weapons systems. Researchers say the surge reflects a world shaped by overlapping conflicts, geopolitical rivalry and rising
