EU Member States have agreed on a general approach for the EU’s 2040 climate target: a legally binding goal to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040, including an 85% domestic target and up to 5% international carbon credits. At the same time, the EU has submitted its new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement to the UNFCCC: to reduce net emissions by 66.25–72.5% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels.
