The European Parliament has approved changes to the EU asylum system paving the way for authorities to fast-track asylum rejections and making it possible for asylum seekers to be transferred to countries with which they have little or no connection. Rights groups call it an 'attack on the right to asylum'. The move marks a sharp hardening of European migration policy fuelled by the rise of the far-right.
