A man who spent 38 years behind bars after being wrongly convicted of murder has claimed he was beaten by police officers and “bullied” into a false confession. Peter Sullivan was dubbed the “ Beast of Birkenhead ” over the 1986 murder of Diane Sindall , who was attacked and beaten to death during a frenzied sexual attack. Mr Sullivan, who has learning difficulties, had his conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal in May this year after new DNA tests were carried out. He now wants an apology
