Hungarian Laszlo Krasznahorkai wins Nobel Prize for literature

Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The Swedish Academy awarded this year's Nobel Prize in literature to Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai, known for bringing "apocalyptic terror" to his work. Krasznahorkai, 71, is known for his long sentences and dark subjects. The Swedish Academy said they chose him for the prize," for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art." Several of his books have been adapted into movies by Hungarian director Bela Tarr,
