US authorities seize two Venezuelan oil tankers

The US has seized a Venezuela-linked oil tanker surrounded by a Russian escort, in a move that could see Donald Trump risk a dispute with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, January 7. US forces boarded the Marinera, a Russian-flagged vessel, previously known as Bella-1, as it travelled through the waters between Iceland and Scotland. The US European Command confirmed the seizure and said it was due to “violations of US sanctions”, following a two-week pursuit across the Atlantic Ocean. Separately,
