Now that we are well into winter and can expect not to see much of the sun over the next few months, we need to find other ways of getting enough vitamin D. The nutrient helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body which keeps bones, teeth and muscles healthy. Our bodies create vitamin D from direct sunlight which is not a problem during the summer months, but between October and early March in the UK, we do not make enough of it from sunlight due to the shift in seasons.
