Italian retail sales up 1.6% in value but down 0.3% in volume in April year-on-year

Istat said Friday that Italian retail sales increased by 1.6% in value terms in April compared to the same month last year but fell by 0.3% in volume.     The data suggests the inflation spike driven by the energy-price shock triggered by the Iran war is having an impact, with consumers paying more to get less.     The national statistics agency said retail sales stayed unchanged in value and decreased by 0.3% in volume in April compared with March 2026, according to seasonally adjusted figures.
