Israel's war in Gaza and the expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank have brought growing calls for the recognition of a Palestinian state. The United Nations General Assembly will take up the issue on Tuesday. 147 of the 193 member nations have already recognized Palestinian statehood.
