Calls mount for UK social media ban as Meta hit with ruling over 'addictive' apps

A jury in Los Angeles, United States has found that Google, owner of YouTube and Meta , which owns Facebook , Instagram and Whatsapp , were intentionally built to be addictive, and contributed to the serious harm of a 20-year-old woman's mental health. The woman, known as Kayley, was awarded $6m (£4.5m) in damages , with jurors concluding the companies had “acted with malice, oppression, or fraud”.
