Singapore Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing hopes that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is not against or for China and the United States, but that it is “pro-ASEAN”. “The world has enough troubles. If ASEAN just stays out of trouble, we will distinguish ourselves,” he said during a plenary session at Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 on Sunday (May 31).
