A former Alaska Airlines pilot who attempted to cut the engines of a passenger flight while off-duty in the cockpit made an extraordinary confession to police as he revealed the events surrounding his attempted crash. This week, Joseph David Emerson, 46, was sentenced by the U.S. District Judge Amy Baggio in Portland, Oregon, to time served and three years of supervised release. Federal prosecutors had sought a one-year prison term, but the judge ruled he will not serve additional prison time.
