Rachel Reeves has been urged to charge drivers 1p-per-mile instead of ending a temporary cut in fuel duty at her Autumn Budget next week. The Tony Blair Institute has suggested the Chancellor introduce a new pay-per-mile system of 1p a mile for cars and vans, 2.5p for lorries and 4p for heavy goods vehicles.
