Lake Powell Water Could Drop to Critical Levels Sooner Than Expected

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) said new projections show Lake Powell could drop to minimum hydropower level in December 2026 and reach a record low by March 2027 amid worsening forecasts. The Colorado River system, which includes the U.S.'s largest reservoirs—Lakes Mead and Powell—supplies water to about 40 million people and irrigates more than 5 million acres of farmland, according to the National Agricultural Law Center.
