Climber who 'left partner to freeze to death on mountain' reveals her last words
Austria
A climber who is accused of abandoning his girlfriend at the top of a mountain where she froze to death is facing trial. Thomas Plamberger, 39, who denies manslaughter, told the trial "she told me to go" after he left her at the top of Austria's highest mountain. Kerstin Gurtner, 33, died just 150ft below the summit of the 12,460ft Grossglockner in January 2024 as temperatures plunged to a bone-numbing -20C.
