External debt and current account deficit of Romania rises in 2024

Romania’s external debt and current account deficit have significantly increased during the first ten months of 2024, according to data released by the National Bank of Romania (BNR). The current account deficit widened to €24.2 billion from €18.45 billion in the same period of 2023. The main drivers were a larger trade deficit, which grew by €3.7 billion to €26.95 billion, and a reduced surplus in services, down by €1.69 billion to €9.47 billion.
