Religious people cope better in a crisis: Evidence from the UK pandemic lockdown

Despite the potentially large welfare implications of religious observance, economic analysis of the relationship between religion, crises, and psychological distress is sparse. This column examines how religiosity affected mental health during the UK COVID-19 lockdowns, and finds that religious people coped significantly better than non-religious people.
