President Donald Trump claimed that Congress “is becoming antisemitic” during the White House Hanukkah celebration on Tuesday, 16 December. Mr Trump went on to make another unfounded claim, suggesting Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar “hates Jewish people” without providing evidence to back up the statement. Trump frequently targets Omar, who is one of his most outspoken critics. The Minnesota representative has previously called the President’s “obsession” with her “creepy and unhealthy”.
