Just hours after US President Donald Trump announced that, following a phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to scale back fighting , Israel carried out strikes on targets in southern Lebanon , killing several people. Residents of Beirut, however, voiced relief as Israel withdrew plans to intensify strikes on the Lebanese capital.  A truce in Lebanon is seen as pivotal to the  protracted Iran-US peace talks topping Trump's agenda.
