The cost of a TV licence is to climb from £174.50 amid concerns the BBC fee is now more expensive than the subscription for major streaming giants like Netflix and Disney+. The licence fee will go up to £180 from April 1 2026, in line with inflation. The cost of an annual colour TV licence will rise by £5.50. That is the equivalent of an extra 46p a month - meaning it will now cost £15 a month. By comparison, Netflix charges £12.99 a month for a standard subscription that offers ad-free viewing
