Food prices boom, 25% surge since 2021
Inflatie
In five years, food prices in Italy have soared by nearly 25%, well above the general inflation rate, driven primarily between 2022 and 2023 by the energy price shock, Istat said in its November economic performance report Wednesday. "From October 2021 to October 2025, food prices increased by 24.9%, an increase of almost 8 percentage points higher than the harmonized index of consumer prices (+17.3%) in the same period," the Institute of Statistics wrote.
