State pensioners have been warned that the rates that decide how much their pension goes up could be frozen. The alert comes as the government prepares to outline at the Budget plans to plug a projected £22 billion black hole in the nation's finances. Under the existing Triple Lock commitment, both the New and Basic State Pension will increase annually. The rise will be in line with whichever is highest among average annual earnings growth from May to July, Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation
