Lidl , the budget supermarket heavyweight, has rolled out a divisive new policy at its self-service checkouts that will see cash payments being phased out. The chain, which is ranked as the second most affordable grocer behind Aldi by Which?, has started to inform customers through notices in select stores that its self-service tills will no longer accept cash transactions.
