Map Shows States With the Highest ‘Zombie Foreclosure’ Rates

The share of abandoned, foreclosing homes is edging down in the United States, though some states are seeing significant numbers of “zombie” properties across their housing markets. According to a new report from the real estate analytics firm ATTOM, of the 230,401 properties in the process of foreclosure in the first quarter of this year, 3.3 percent could be classified as “zombie” homes—abandoned amid the foreclosure proceedings.
