Digital roots taking hold in Southeast Europe’s agriculture sector

In stark contrast to much of Europe, agriculture remains a strong economic pillar in Southeast Europe (SEE). In 2023, the sector contributed between 4% and 5.1% to the national GVA in Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Serbia, compared to a modest 1.8% across the EU. The economic significance of the sector is underpinned by extensive agricultural lands, with utilised agricultural areas spanning 26% to 54% of these countries’ territories.
