The Kyiv Independent’s War Crimes Investigation Unit will release its new documentary, Torture Culture, an in-depth investigation into the systematic torture of Ukrainian civilians in Russian captivity. Through interviews with survivors and an examination of Russian torture practices across different historical periods and regions, including the Soviet Gulag system and Russia’s wars in Chechnya, the film traces a system of violence linking past atrocities to Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
