UK monkeys 'set to be put down' from April 6 thanks to new rule
Ana Maria Rus
A monkey owner says primate keepers are worried their animals will be seized and killed under new government rules, coming into force in April. Lisa-Marie Bearman and her partner, Matt French, have kept marmosets for more than a decade at their home in Rochester. But under the new laws, coming into force from April 6, owners like them will need a licence to continue to have the animals as pets. To obtain a licence, owners will have to show they can house their animals in “zoo-level standards”.
